MetalWorking Three is comprised of edited reprints of feature articles from Projects in Metal magazine - 1992 and 1993. By this time in the life of Projects in Metal, its contents had matured in the sense that more and more fine author/machinists were coming to its pages. Names like Steve Acker, John Cooper, Art Crow, Robert Hedin, Dick Torgerson, Glenn Wilson, Terry Sexton, Bill Reichart, and Walter Mueller, for example, have become very common today, six and seven years later. They, along with all others included in this volume have contributed significantly to the hobby of machining.

Although the magazine title Projects in Metal suggests its contents are all projects, this has never been completely the case. It seems important to me that a section on techniques be included - how to accomplish an otherwise ticklish job, or how to do something very basic but generally overlooked. Each of our books begins with a section on Techniques - because what is learned there may be applied later when you get into fabricating a tool, jig, fixture or accessory.

Whatever it is you choose to do with the contents of this book, I hope you do it with safety at the forefront of your consciousness. Then as you open the book, breathe a soft "thank you" to the authors who give up significant chip-making time to sit at their keyboard or drafting board, and behind their camera, to bring you their practical, clever, and often beautiful ideas and creations.
