Winning Chess

For the average chess player tactical ability is the key to winning more games and reading this book can significantly improve that ability. The approach is simple, direct and focused yet somehow the writing is entertaining and enthusiastic. Chapters are devoted to specific tactics; each chapter has an explanation of the basic pattern, followed by illustrated exercises increasing in difficulty to practice and reinforce understanding, and finishes with a quiz. Tactics covered include the pin, the knight fork, double attack, discovered attack, discovered check, overworked piece, removing the guard, etc. The final chapter contains a few illustrative games. I think this is the best book for learning chess tactics and a pleasure to read. This book is great - buy it if you get a chance.
