More In this workshop, held in Utrecht from June 28 t o 30, 1976, exciting information has been presented on the control of arterial blood pressure by the brain. The meeting served to enlarge and integrate our understanding of hypertension in relation to brain mechanisms under physiological and pathological conditions. Major aspects ranged from brain neuroanatomy and neurotransmission of cardiovascular control, baroreceptor function, brain damage and hypertension (and the reverse), biofeedback, emotional behavior and psychological as well as drug therapy of hypertension. This reflects the necessary cooperation of workers of different scientific disciplines required t o pursue the new developments. The new laboratory and clinical findings already indicate that the study of the central regulation of blood pressure provides important leads for new therapeutic developments. The favorable academic spirit during the conference stimulated a mutual exchange of ideas and future cooperation.
