More Human-Robot Interaction As Robotic Systems Become Widespread In The Manufacturing And Service industries, this book is one of few to address the key question of how they interact with humans. Counteracting some early predictions in robot popularity, the ultimate goal of largescale implementations in unmanned factories and totally autonomous robotic systems has not been achieved. Recent developments in advanced computer-controlled technology pose significant questions with respect to the role and involvement of humans in productivity and safety of these hybrid systems. From a productivity point of view, automation engineers and system designers are involved in designing more efficient and reliable robotic systems. Managers are concerned with implementing an array of organizational structures, job and work designs and technology implementations to increase the efficiency of their robot-based operations.
