Schmidt, Siegfried Weichsenberg, "Die Wirklichkeit der Medien: Eine Einführung in die Kommunikationswissenschaft" Medien und Kommunikation sind für unsere Gesellschaft unverzichtbar: Sie prägen politische, wirtschaftliche und soziale Prozesse - zunehmend auch unseren Alltag. In diesem einführenden Lehrbuch werden die Bedingungen, Formen und Leistungen von Medienkommunikation beschrieben und analysiert. Ausgehend von einer grundlegenden Darstellung kommunikativer Prozesse werden in 20 Beiträgen aktuelle kommunikationswissenschaftliche Modelle, Methoden und Ergebnisse vorgestellt. Themen sind u. a. die individuellen und sozialen Voraussetzungen der Kommunikation, die Wirklichkeitskonstruktion durch Medien, die Entwicklung, Organisation und Ökonomie der Medien, die Medientechnik, der Journalismus und die Perpektiven der 'Informationsgesellschaft'. Einen weitern Schwerpunkt bilden die Wirkungen der Medien - zum Beispiel auf Kinder.
