More Pekka Himanen “Die Hacker - Ethik. Und der Geist des Informations- Zeitalter" Dieses Buch bietet weder eine Anleitung zum Hacken noch Spezialwisssen für Computerexperten. Die Hacker-Ethik setzt sich mit der Qualität des beginnenden 21. Jahrhunderts auseinander, mit seinen Werten und Chancen und selbstverständlich mit dem Zeitgeist, der sich nicht trennen lässt von PC und Internet. Wir leben in einer von Hackern geschaffenen Netzwerkgesellschaft, lautet die These des finnischen Medienwissenschaftlers Pekka Himanen. Was zunächst provozierend oder gar bedrohlich klingen mag, ist in Wahrheit eine zukunftsweisende Feststellung. Denn Himanen verwendet den Begriff Hacker nicht in jenem destruktiven Sinne, den er durch seine Anwendung auf Computer-Kriminelle erhielt (diese bezeichnet er als Cracker), sondern in seiner ursprünglichen Bedeutung, wie er in den sechziger Jahren am Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) für leidenschaftliche Programmierer unter den Studenten benützt wurde. Die von ihm dargelegte Hacker-Ethik steht denn auch in deutlichem Gegensatz zur protestantischen Ethik des Industriezeitalters. Diese von Max Weber im ausgehenden 19. Jahrhundert beschriebene Ethik betrachtete Arbeit als positiven Wert in sich, eine Tätigkeit, der wir uns pflichtschuldig zu unterwerfen haben, auch wenn wir sie nicht mögen. Nichtarbeit wurde in diesem Kontext als sittlich verwerflich angesehen. Im Gegensatz hierzu betrachtet der Hacker Arbeit nicht als Strafe Gottes, der er sich nolens volens unterwirft. Sie ist vielmehr eine Tätigkeit, an der er Spass findet und der er sich spielerisch mit Lust und Leidenschaft hingibt, ohne an Geld oder Zeit zu denken. Vor allem aber wollen Hacker, dass die Früchte ihrer Kreativität allen Menschen, unabhängig von Hautfarbe, Sprache und Religion, zugänglich werden. Geradezu als Verräter der Hacker-Moral wird Bill Gates angesehen. Obwohl er wie Linus Torvalds als leidenschaftlicher Hacker begann, liess er sich schliesslich doch vom Gewinnstreben korrumpieren und verkörpert heute geradezu prototypisch die Antiwelt. Microsoft versucht sein Wissen geheimzuhalten, versucht Monopole aufzubauen und die Konkurrenz auszuschalten. Im Gegensatz hierzu sind Offenheit, freier Informationsaustausch und Gemeinschaft die grossen Ideale der Hacker. Nach eben diesen Prinzipien funktioniert auch Linux, derzeit die einzige Konkurrenz zu Microsoft. Die Linux-Software kann jeder gratis nutzen. Programmierer werden ermutigt, das Linux-System weiter zu entwickeln, müssen sich aber verpflichten, ihr Know-how umsonst zur Verfügung zu stellen. Jeden Wettbewerb, der auf Kontrolle von Information beruht, lehnen echte Hacker ab. Ihre Programme sollen von allen angewandt, getestet und fortgeschrieben werden können. Vor diesem Hintergrund erhält der Begriff freie Marktwirtschaft einen viel tieferen Sinn; denn im Gegensatz zu den Triebfedern des Kapitalismus - Geld und Macht - sind Hacker motiviert von der Freude an kreativer Arbeit und dem freien Austausch von Informationen und Gütern innerhalb der Gemeinschaft. Welchen Unterschied freie Informationsbeschaffung mittels des Internet machen kann, zeigt die subversive Wirkung dieses Mediums in autoritär beherrschten Ländern wie China, Jugoslawien oder den ehemaligen Ostblockstaaten. Pekka Himanens Buch richtet sich an alle, die sich mit den Werten und Wandlungsprozessen und unserer Gesellschaft auseinandersetzen. Er kommt in seiner spannenden Analyse zu dem interessanten Ergebnis, dass unsere Zukunft nicht in Wissens- bzw.
