They all need a phys i cal therapist to help them over come pain, re store mo bil ity, and lead in de pend ent lives. Phys i cal ther a pists help more than one mil lion peo ple ev ery day, from ev ery age group and back ground you can think of. Phys i cal ther a pists treat any part of the body that is n’t func tion ing prop erly due to in jury, dis ease, or other causes. They are trained to stretch, strengthen, test bal ance and co or di na tion, mas sage, and en hance mo bil ity. In ad di tion to these hands-on skills, they employ a wide va ri ety of me chan i cal means such as spe cial ex er cises, ex treme tem per a tures, in fra red light, ul tra sound, and elec tric ity.
