More Canadair Sabre Cl.13A Mk. 5 (Flugzeuge Der Bundeswehr 12) By Peter Sickinger Die Geschichte der "Sabre" (engl, krummer Reitersäbel) begann am 22.11.44 mit dem North American-Entwurf RD-1265 für den Strahljäger NA-140. Die U.S.Navy bestellte Anfang 1945 drei XFJ-1; auch die USAAF orderte Mai 45 drei XP-86 des zuerst mit Geradflügeln und GE J35-Triebwerk geplanten Jägers. Die XFJ-1 ging als "Fury" in Serie, während sich NAA bei der P-86 aufgrund Windkanal-Untersuchungen für Pfeilflügel entschied. Am 01.10.47 flog die XP-86 Sabre erstmals, um dann als zweites US-Flugzeug die Schallgrenze zu durchbrechen. Serien-Nr. 1 der F-86A-1-NA flog am 20.05.48; mit dem endgültigen Antrieb, der Axial-Strahlturbine J47 von GE. Als Ende 50 die letzte der 554 F-86A ausgeliefert wurde, begann der Korea-Konflikt. Der Westen konnte nur mühsam - insbesondere dank der F-86 - die Luftherrschaft vor den MiG-15 wiedergewinnen. Inzwischen lief die Serie F-86E an, die sich von der "A" anfangs nur durch ein ungeteiltes Höhenruder unterschied. 1949 wurde die F-86 als derzeit bester Jäger für die Royal Canadian Air Force gewählt. Der Lizenzbau begann bei der Cana-dair Ltd. in Montreal mit 100 Stück; fast 90% der Teile kamen aus den USA.
