More click to enlarge “Image and video segmentation is one of the most critical tasks of image and video analysis: extracting information from an image or a sequence of images. In the last 40 years, this field has experienced significant growth and development, and has resulted in a virtual explosion of published information. Advances in Image and Video Segmentation brings together the latest results from researchers involved in state-of-the-art work in image and video segmentation, providing a collection of modern works made by more than 50 experts around the world. Yu-Jin Zhang received a Ph.D. from the State University of Liege, Belgium, in 1989. From 1989 to 1993, he was with the Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. In 1993, he joined the Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, where he has been professor of image engineering since 1997. In 2003, he spent his sabbatical year as visiting professor at National Technological University, Singapore. He has published more than 200 research papers and 10 books including two monographs: Image Segmentation and Content-based Visual Information Retrieval (Science Press). He is the vice president of the China Society of Image and Graphics and the society’s director of academic committees. He is deputy editor-in-chief of the Journal of Image and Graphics and associate editor of Pattern Recognition Letters. He was the program co-chair of the first and second International Conferences on Image and Graphics.
