Trim BVSc MRCVS DVA DACVA DECVA, "" This is the classic reference anesthesia text, geared towards veterinary students but to be kept as a useful shelf reference during veterinary practice. The book clearly emphasises clinical, practical techniques and the authors keep it simple and clear. The book has a good overview of analgesics, and interesting discussions on computer-controlled anesthesia, total intravenous anesthetic protocols, controversies regarding preoperative blood testing and anesthesia for specific disease conditions in small animals. The book is very current, including transdermal fentanyl patches, propofol, desflurane and others. Species specific chapters are included, and these are useful. In addition, birds, lab animals and wildlife are included, and the inclusion of hedgehogs is certainly unique. The book has been written by and for British veterinarians, which explains the omission of commonly used drugs in the United States (such as Telazol).
