Ainsi, les emprunteurs seraient des cigales imprévoyantes, voire intempérantes ? Et les prêteurs de " grands méchants loups " peu regardants sur les capacités de remboursement de leurs clients ?... Pourtant, sans le crédit, que deviendrait l'équipement des ménages en biens durables ? Comment les particuliers pourraient-ils acquérir une voiture, équiper leur maison, aider leurs enfants à financer leurs études ? Que serait un monde sans crédit ? Parce que le crédit à la consommation est une réalité qui concerne un grand nombre de Français, cet essai revient sur son rôle économique et social et propose des clés de compréhension à son lecteur. Il examine sans détour les critiques et réfute les idées reçues, par une synthèse du cadre réglementaire et de son contexte, ainsi que par des mises en perspective à travers les époques. Enfin, il envisage ce que pourraient être les axes de développement du crédit de demain, au coeur, notamment, des préoccupations environnementales.

Nicolas Pécourt est directeur de la prospective et de la communication d'une société financière. Diplômé de l'ESSEC, il dispose d'une expérience professionnelle diversifiée dans les services financiers. Auteur de plusieurs articles et études sur le crédit, il participe régulièrement à des conférences et débats sur ce sujet.
