More No practitioner of Chinese Medicine, particularly of Chinese Herbal Medicine, can afford to be without this book. It is methodically laid out with an extensive introduction to Diabetes from the perspectives of both Chinese Medicine and Industrial Medicine (a.k.a. “Western Medicine” for no discernibly rational reason). From then on each chapter deals with the treatment of Diabetes, firstly from the general standpoint of Chinese Differential Diagnosis, and then by other diseases that often accompany Diabetes such as hypertension, gangrene, retinopaty, etc., etc. Each of these chapters follows the same format: an introduction to the disease via Industrial Medicine mechanisms and differentiation; an introduction to the mechanisms and differentiation by Chinese Medicine; treatment of the disease by Chinese Differential Diagnosis using both Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture (extensive modifications of both herbal and point selection formulae are cited); case examples and additional comments. The text is as authorative and responsible as one has come to expect from the superb and ethical work of Bob Flaws. The layout is, as always from Dr Flaws, no frills, no designer tints, no pictures inserted for amateurs and beginners; this book is for serious practitioners doing a serious job of treating disease.
