To escape the edict of Egypt's Pharoah, Rameses I, condemning all first-born Hebrew males, the infant Moses is set adrift on the Nile in a reed basket. Saved by the pharaoh's daughter Bithiah, he is adopted by her and brought up in the court of her brother, Pharaoh Seti. Moses gains Seti's favor and the love of the throne princess Nefertiri, as well as the hatred of Seti's son, Rameses. When his Hebrew heritage is revealed, Moses is cast out of Egypt, and makes his way across the desert where he marries, has a son and is commanded by God to return to Egypt to free the Hebrews from slavery. In Egypt Moses's fiercest enemy proves to be not Rameses, but someone near to him who can 'harden his heart'.

Wenn man verstehen will, weshalb der Film zu den zeitlosen Klassikern zählt, sollte man sich Die 10 Gebote auf jeden Fall anschauen, auch aufgrund der zahlreichen noch immer eindrucksvollen Effekte, wie zum Beispiel der Teilung des Roten Meeres.

Die Pracht und das Monumentale von Cecil B. DeMille's "Die zehn Gebote" 1956, dem Remake seines eigenen Films von 1923, wurde nie erreicht. Gefilmt in Ägypten und dem Sinai, mit einem der größten Sets, das je für einen Film gebaut wurde, erzählt diese Version die Lebensgeschichte von Moses. Einst vom Pharao bevorzugt, kehrt er dem priviligiertem Leben den Rücken, um sein Volk in die Freiheit zu führen.

Le film raconte la libération des Hébreux esclaves en Égypte. Moïse sauvé des eaux élevé à la cour de Pharaon Sethi Ier avec le futur Ramsès II, sur lequel il déclenche les dix plaies d'Égypte pour le forcer à libérer son peuple. Le passage de la mer Rouge est une scène inoubliable. En chemin, Dieu lui remet les tables de la loi et il conduit son peuple à la terre promise.

La toma en la que Moisés (Charlton Heston) recibe el poder de Dios para abrir las aguas del Mar Rojo y sepultar bajos sus aguas a los egipcios, perseguidores del pueblo de Israel, quedará grabada siempre como uno de los momentos clásicos del cine. Y es que De Mille fue no sólo pionero sino genio. Un artesano del séptimo arte que llenaba de espectacularidad cada proyecto que abrazaba.

Las actuaciones de Heston y el resto del reparto son sobresalientes. Destacan Yul Brynner como el hijo del Faraón, empeñado en heredar el trono a costa de lo que sea, Anne Baxter, Yvonne de Carlo, un sensacional Edward G. Robinson, John Derek, Cedric Hardwick, Nina Foch, Debra Paget, John Carradine, H. B. Warner, y Martha Scott entre otros. Para verla y volver a verla.

Il film narra la storia di Mosè, il bambino ebreo salvato dalla madre a seguito di un massacro voluto dal faraone, che, adottato dalla figlia di quest'ultimo, divenne principe d'Egitto e, dopo aver scoperto le sue vere origini, decise di abbandonare la sua vita di lussi e agi e, in seguito, dopo aver affrontato il faraone Ramesse II, suo acerrimo nemico sin dalla gioventù, liberò il suo popolo dalla schiavitù. La trama della pellicola è desunta, oltre che dal libro dell'Esodo, anche dal Midrash, dal Corano e dai testi di Giuseppe Flavio.
