More The Royal Artillery (Men at Arms) Text by W.Y. Carman, Colour Plates by Michael Roffe. In May 1716 a permenant regiment of artillery, albeit of only two companies, was introduced into the British Army. This was the first step in the formation of the Royal Artillery, whose units have featured in so many battles that their battle colours simply read ‘Ubique’ - Everywhere.
