Any preacher or teacher can incorporate more sense appeal resulting in more compelling, clear, and memorable messages with greater impact. Summary: Fascinating discussion of how we communicate and learn Rating: 5 I bought this book after installing a sanctuary projection system in our church which resulted in immediate attendance growth. It helped explain how people learn through multiple-sensory inputs rather than by verbal input alone and how to communicate more effectively. Gone are the days when a preacher or teacher, in any setting, could simply stand up and talk, without the use of audio-visual aids, props, or stories. Preachers have told stories for generations, which engage the imagination and create mental pictures, but today's growth in technology, in particular, has opened up a plethora of new possibilities. Church preaching and teaching that takes account of this will be much more effective as a result. That said, Blackwood's techniques are most easily adapted to non-denominational churches with less structured services, which allow more innovation and creativity. However, even traditional, more formal churches, such as my own, can incorporate these insights and see their ministries improve and become more effective in communicating the gospel.
