This book was the key to finally understanding chemistry for me. I did well in high school and college chemistry, but only because I was good at memorization. That's the way chemistry was taught. As current learning theory espouses, memorization gives you little or nothing to build concepts on. Atkins has opened a new door for me. After all these years, I finally understand how and why elements work. Far from the stagnant, heavy, and ponderous field I had previously encountered, I now feel like I've been given the key to an exciting, lively, universe.
