The Mystery of Human Relationship: Alchemy and the Transformation of Self

Introducing the concept of the interactive field, Nathan Schwartz-Salant shows how the states of mind that can secretly undermine our relationships, both private and public, can become positive factors in transforming a relationship when brought to consciousness. Drawing on the insights of the ancient art of alchemy, the author explains how a transformative process can be set in motion once one can recognize and enter the field which exists between partners in a relationship. This "third field," an area which is a focus of imagination for both people, is not only a repository of subjectivities, but contains an objective character as well. The process of exploring this area can lead then to a personal growth which is capable of enriching all relationships.
