More This book, "," is the first in his notorious "Typhonian Trilogies," and is in many ways the best. Grant traces the development of the "Draconian current," being that which expresses the manifold aspects of Draco, Set, Sothis, Shaitan, or Satan (essentially the shadowy but luminous regions of the unconscious mind), all the way back to Sumerian lore, and reaches the conclusion that Crowley's 93 is the most modern embodiment. This is an idea which seems at first of a dry, pedantic import, but one realises that this is quite incorrect when reading the books of such recent adepts as Andrew Chumbley, who have been heavily influenced by Grant's theories. He then proceeds to analyse Crowley's system (which he is quite qualified to do, having been Crowley's last pupil in Netherwood, and does in significantly more detail in the sequel to this book), along with those of other renowned occultists such as Austin Spare (to whom he was also a student) and Dion Fortune. There are also chapters detailing the "Barbarous Names of Evocation," (the Goetia), "Starfire" (esoteric aspects of sex magick), and the enigmas of Crowley's LAM (extraterrestrial or transplutonic forms of consciousness). Also lots o' kundalini tidbits (before it had reached its 'new age' heights of glam), for those so bold. The basic argument is that Grant fell into Daath and couldn't cross, but that his personality was still largely intact during the writing of this book. I have to say that it is at least the most coherent and is definitely recommended reading for either the serious student or the morbidly curious alike. Be warned that though this isn't a grimoire in the traditional sense, you will nonetheless find some of its passages engraining themselves within your unconscious self...
