It's hard to make a biography about THE FLOWER KINGS, being that there's so much to say about them, so any attempt of telling their history may seem insufficient.
This esential Swedish group was born around 1993 as a power trio formed by Roine Stolt (Ex-KAIPA) in guitar and vocals, Jaime Salazar (Drums) and Hasse Bruniusson (percussion), and ex-SAMLA MAMMAS MANNA, this lineup worked with Stolt in his solo album "The Flower King" with the participation of Hans Fröberg (Lead and Backing vocals) who would stay with them...

...Soon they decided to form a band using the name of the solo album so THE FLOWER KINGS was born, the keyboardist Tomas Bodin and Roine's brother Michael in the bass joined and the band was officially born.
For 1995 they have their first release ready "Back in the World of Adventures" which impressed the critics very much for their closeness to the style of early bands such as Moody Blues, genesis, Jethro Tull etc, borrowing ideas but not music, so you can easily find their inspiration but a single chord copied, I personally liked the album but found it closer to Neo Prog than to Symphonic but this is only a stylistic precision that has no relation with the quality of the album.
The next few years are prolific with few changes and they release "Retropolis" in 1996. Stardust we Are" in 1997 and "Flower Power" in 1998 with no great changes.
In 1999 Michael Stolt leaves the band and is replaced by Jonas Reingold so the new formation for "Space Revolver" in the year 2000 also includes Ulf Wallander playing the Sax as a guest that remains for a long period with them... Buy It at Lowest Price on Amazon
Roine Stolt is clearly at his finest on this record creating some heafty tasty guitar parts. Roine also has teamed up with some amazing musicians which certainly add lots of powder to the release. Songs are exceptionally well put together and have a very strong spirtual feeling to them. This is superbly well recorded and sounds quite nice on a good stereo system. Roine sings on many of the tracks which as usual carries a strong John Wetton -like sound to it. Superb musicianshp and is highly recommended

Here was one of my fav's from '96 and remains to this day a household favorite with repeated plays in my CD player. Roine and the boys here "outdid" themselves blending some of the most powerful progressive rock ever compiled. left from the very haunting ping pong introduction of "Rhythm Of Life" to the clever track "Road Back Home", The FLOWER KINGS will keep you simply amazed. Loads of guitar, incredible keyboards and the highest of skilled musicians are the top reason why you should not be without this recording. This is also essential prog!

this album is the one that first demonstrates the immense talent this band has. The debut was solid, but unspectacular, whilst 'Retropolis' was, for me, disappointing, lacking in melody and sounding somewhat disjointed. (See my reviews for these albums.) I know other fans rate 'Retropolis' as one of their best, but for me, it is their least enjoyable. Now this album is a different matter! A two disc ride of enjoyable melodies and superb playing. Although the Kings have their own style, their biggest influence, Yes, still shows through at times. 'In The Eyes Of The World' is quite a heavy, upbeat type of song, the type that doesn't usually do anything for me, but it is a great opener here. Excellent vocals and guitar work. then comes a trademark short keyboard led instrumental, 'A Room With A View' which is very nice, almost reminds me of Tomita. (Remember him?) 'Just This Once' is one of the tracks with a Yes influence...

Roine Stolt's solo album "The Flower King" in 1994 was a fresh breath of air. It was simply the best he had done since KAIPA, and a milestone in Swedish progressive rock. The album's title became the name for a new band called The FLOWER POWER, who would come to be one of the leading names in Progressive rock, both in Sweden and in the whole world. The band and the band members have since then released albums in a faster tempo than any other bands I know about. "Workaholics" would be a proper name for them. And if I tell you that every album contains high-quality progressive rock, that two of the albums are double-CDs...

Don't believe the hype. That's what the non-commercial-prog-attitude thought me. But, if you never trust the hype, you COULD once in a while miss some super stuff. Like this album, released in 2000.I must say that I'm impressed by this magnificent opus. It's my first plunge in The Flower Kings and I don't regret one minute that I've bought Space Revolver. It's simply touching. Some songs parts are so catchy, they'd make FM songwriters jalous.... Download Link (Progarchives)
