& 8220;This was a truly inspired idea, putting together Van the Man with Ireland's most famous musicians. If it were possible to give it more than 5 stars, I would. Some of it is Morrison in his sunniest mood, and it's impossible not to get up and dance on some of these tunes. On the other hand "Celtic Ray" will make you deeply thoughtful about the blessings of family and tribe, and "Carrickfergus" and "She Moved Through the Fair" will send chills down your spine. This is music you must have.

I always hated Van Morrison, and would make fun of him when my mom played his music. But I heard "Star of the County Down" and fell in love with this music.

This is a superb album, worth the money for "Carrickfergus" alone... as fine a rendition as has ever been committed to tape, Van is THE person to sing this, without doubt. As a guy from Belfast (just round the corner from Van's "cyprus avenue" and "Orangefield" where he grew up), I have only started to fully grasp his influence and his talent. This is not his best album (although it is possibly the Cheiftains most well known), but it does evoke the kind of heart of Irish music that would perhaps otherwise never get heard. I can't admit to be much interested in the vast majority of Irish traditional music, but there are some songs (Carrickfergus for instance) which are simply stunning songs. Of the entire album, I can't honestly pick a weak track, and Van's voice seems to mix perfectly with the tone and feel of the music in each and every track. My advice is to get this if you haven't heard much trad Irish music, or if you like Van... hell, get the album in otherwords. It is very impressive all in all.
