MOBILE FIDELITY SOUND LAB MFSL-1-023 | AUDIOPHILE CD

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has been the undisputed pioneer and leader in audiophile recordings since the company's inception in 1977. Established by dedicated audiophiles, Mobile Fidelity's first and foremost goal was to offer faithfully reproduced high fidelity recordings that would compliment the numerous advances occurring in audio delivery systems. Throughout its history, Mobile Fidelity has remained true to this goal, pioneering state-of-the-art technologies and setting audiophile standards that remain in place today.

In response to rapid advancements in both recording formats and audio delivery systems over the past several years, Mobile Fidelity has maintained its ongoing commitment to improving industry standards. This has resulted in the introduction of numerous innovations in the audiophile arena: half-speed mastered Original Master Recording™ LPs, Ultra High Quality Records™ (UHQRs), high fidelity cassettes, consumer alignment devices for phono cartridges and audio cassette decks, Original Master Recording™ compact discs, the 24-karat gold plated Ultradisc™ CD and the Ultradisc™ Ultra High Resolution™ (UHR). To this day the independently owned firm continues its commitment to exceeding industry standards.

This is a true Collector’s find for those individuals who want to own the finest and rarest pieces of musical history. It is similar to owning the artist’s own Rare Gold Record Album in a Gold CD pressing. You will be one of the last people in the world to own these Limited Edition Long Out of Print Masterpieces that will add true value to your Collection.

MFSL LIMITED GOLD EDITION. This 24-Karat Gold Limited Edition is an audiophile collectors item that simply gives the feeling of being directly in the studio with the artist.

This Out of Print Gold bonafide collectible disc has all Liner Notes, Photos, and Artwork from the Original LP faithfully recreated.

A SONIC WORK OF ART. These Out of Print gems are the Ferrari of the audiophile CD market. Many over the last year have doubled or tripled in value. The future of these collectibles is so exciting because each piece is a sonic work of art that will never be reproduced using this expensive 24-Karat Gold mastering process. You will be one of only a few thousand in the world owning this audiophile classic.

The album

AMG REVIEW:

The last Beatles album to be recorded (although Let It Be was the last to be released), Abbey Road was a fitting swan song for the group, echoing some of the faux-conceptual forms of Sgt. Pepper, but featuring stronger compositions and more rock-oriented ensemble work. The group were still pushing forward in all facets of their art, whether devising some of the greatest harmonies to be heard on any rock record (especially on "Because"), constructing a medley of songs/vignettes that covered much of side two, adding subtle touches of Moog synthesizer, or crafting furious guitar-heavy rock ("The End," "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," "Come Together"). George Harrison also blossomed into a major songwriter, contributing the buoyant "Here Comes the Sun" and the supremely melodic ballad "Something," the latter of which became the first Harrison-penned Beatles hit. Whether Abbey Road is the Beatles' best work is debatable, but it's certainly the most immaculately produced (with the possible exception of Sgt. Pepper) and most tightly constructed. — Richie Unterberger

Let It Be was the last Beatle album released but Abbey Road was the last one recorded.

After the Get Back/Let It Be sessions, the band was breaking up and each Beatle was thinking of a solo career. Paul asked George Martin to produce a new album with the condition that the recording be done like "in the old days".

Detail : The Beatles twelfth official album release, but the LAST that was actually recorded by them. This was the first L.P. to be in Stereo ONLY.

The advance sales for this release in the U.K. totalled 190,000, taking it straight to number 1.

After just six weeks it had sold 4,000,000, and by the end of the year, 5,000,000 worldwide. It took another 10 years to double that figure, when by 1980 it topped 10 million.

It would have been number 1 for 18 weeks consecutively, but for the 1 week that the Rolling Stones album, "Let It Bleed" took over the top slot.

The album was of course, named after the London road in St. John's Wood that houses the E.M.I. studios (although, at one time it was going to be titled, "Everest"). And because of the eventual success of the album, the studios were re-named as "Abbey Road Studios". The cover photograph was taken Friday 8th August 1969 by Iain Macmillan at 10 o'clock in the morning. For these quick snaps a British Bobby held up the traffic for 10 minutes as six pictures were taken (in two of which Paul wore his sandals !). Along with Sgt. Peppers, once again The Beatles managed to create something so unique that it has been imitated many times.

The "Abbey Road" album came without a title on the front cover, and no lyric sheet ... being quite simple, it just had one photograph on the front, and one on the rear.

The album title refers to EMI Studios on Abbey Road where the Beatles recorded most of their songs. Another title for the album was Everest, a brand of cigarettes Geoff Emerick, their engineer, smoked. In fact, a trip to photograph the album cover in the Himalayas was suggested but was dismissed due to time constraints.

For the actual cover, the Beatles were photographed crossing Abbey Road in front of Abbey Road studios wearing what they came to work in. Paul, barefoot, wore sandals to work.

In America "Abbey Road" won a Grammy for "Best Engineered Non-Classical Recording".

Also recorded during the Abbey Road sessions,

"Come And Get It" - 24th July 1969 in 1 take.

The album was also part of "The Beatles Collection" 13 album box set (see Beatles Collection).

In January 1979 a picture disc version of Abbey Road was planned, but very few copies were released before the project was abandoned, and the release withdrawn.

On 19th October 1987 this album had it's first release on C.D. which was published in stereo, with a catalogue number of CDP 746 446 2
