Vivienne Stephenson, better known by her stage name Tanya Stephens (born July

2, 1973 in Kingston, Jamaica) is one of the most influential Reggae artists

that emerged in the late 1990s. Stephens is most known for her hits "Yuh Nuh

Ready Fi Dis Yet" the single was later featured on the Reggae Gold 1997

compilation album and "It's a Pity", which achieved Tanya international

recognition as a one of a kind artist.

In an industry historically dominated by male artists with an occasional sexy

vixen, Stephens introduces an element of advanced creativity not common in her

era. She is both ahead of her time, with ideological dissertation and reminiscent

of a past era when soul music by the likes of Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley reigned

supreme.

The album Gangsta Blues fully shows that Tanya Stephens is a "lyrical-sharpshooter"

and a force to be reckoned with on the dancehall reggae scene. "Gangsta Blues"

can be regarded as a concept album on which she addresses the ups and downs of

relationships and social concerns from a females perspective. In contrast to the

lyrical content of most of the tracks included on her previous albums it's obvious

that Tanya has broadened her focus and has covered new ground as she breaks away

from the pervasive themes associated with dancehall and reggae music (i.e. anti-

gay, dancing, rastafarianism, dictation of sexual behavior, etc.). Although this

collection of tunes features some previously released singles the bulk of the

material included here are fresh tracks.

"Gangsta Blues" was produced by Tarantula Productions, a company owned by Tanya

Stephens and her business partner, Andrew Henton. ("like it -> buy it one day").
