In the year or so that I’ve been trying to build up a stock photography business I’ve managed to amass a collection of over 2,500 images. These images are all in Nikon’s NEF file format, a version of the RAW file format.

As you can imagine, I’ve gone through several different workflows as I’ve tried to learn the ropes. I wish I had purchased this book at the beginning.

RAW Workflow from Capture to Archive is an excellent resource for those just starting to get serious in digital photography. Following the simple guidelines presented in the text will save many many headaches. The authors take great pains to present the material as simply as possible. They understand that the readers of this book may represent a large cross section of photographers from the snap-shot shooting beginner to the professional photographer needing to tighten their workflow.

The very basis of the book is that the RAW format is the best to shoot pictures in, as it provides several advantages of JPG. There’s much debate about this on-line and in print, but suffice it to say, I believe the authors have it correct.

The book is non-discriminatory. By that, I mean you will find instructions for Windows as well as Macintosh computers (heck, if I remember correctly, there’s even reference to Linux) as well as several software packages. Emphasis, of course, is on Adobe Photoshop CS2, as it is the “defacto” professional package. However, the authors also go in-depth with Photoshop Elements, Apple’s Aperature, and Lightroom.

For Adobe users, Adobe’s Camera Raw is given a very detailed examination. This free plug-in for Photoshop is an excellent starting point in the digital processing of your images.

But the primary emphasis of the book goes beyond the applications you use and looks at the entire workflow of your image making. Excellent tips from set up of a photo shoot, to the print process are discussed, as well as what to do to insure the integrity of your data for years to come.

I’ve already begun to implement many of the suggestions made in the text. I’ve seen my workflow reduced, speeding the process of getting from taking the picture to sending the final image file to stock agencies. Less time spent processing images means more time to take pictures!Скачать/Download:
