Autor nadał swojej relacji układ chronologiczny, opisując kolejne etapy zmagań - od kampanii lwowskiej (XI 1918-IV 1919), po próby ustalenia granicy wschodniej na Zbruczu. Analiza sytuacji wojskowej - szczególnie drobiazgowa w opisie wypadków mających miejsce we Lwowie w listopadzie 1918 - rzucona jest tu na szersze tło ówczesnej sytuacji międzynarodowej, jak również rozwoju sytuacji politycznej w samej Polsce. Całość poprzedzona została syntetycznym omówieniem stosunków ludnościowych i gospodarczych w Galicji oraz szkicem mapy terenów objętych działaniami wojennymi.
