Kermode SynopsisKermode (emeritus, political studies, Liverpool John Moores U., UK) explores the development of the political relationship between the UK and the Isle of Man over the course of the 20th century. During this period the island went from being nearly a colonial dependency to having considerable political autonomy in domestic affairs. The constitutional progress towards self-government is related to issues of elections, public policy, and the role of the state. Kermode examines the concurrent process by which political power devolved to the island and the transfer of power from executive figures to directly elected members of the House of Keys.
