More Numbers of generators of ideals in local rings (Lecture notes in pure and applied mathematics): Judith D Sally From the introduction: In these notes we consider the problem of determining the number of generators of an ideal in a local (= commutative, Noetherlan with unique maximal ideal) ring. Although there is an interplay of geometry and algebra in this problem, we look at recent (post 1965) results which use primarily algebraic techniques These methods yield results sometimes in the form of bounds for numbers of generators and sometimes in the form of the ineligibility of certain numbers to be the number of generators of certain ideals.
