This course will concentrate on the explanation of the structure and reactivity of molecules using quantum mechanical ideas. The explanations will stress qualitative and semi-quantitative considerations with the emphasis on developing principles that can be used to make reliable predictions on new systems. It is assumed that all students reading this material have had some course presenting the basic elements of quantum mechanics with some treatment of the hydrogen atom, the harmonic oscillator, and angular momentum.
