Sasuga reinterprets conventional views of China's integration with the world economy by stressing the vital contribution of microregionalism, and the ways in which local state and non-state actors have been able to work together to build innovative cross-border governance relations. To illustrate these processes, he looks in detail at the particular case of the electronics industry-the most important economic sector in terms of imports and exports in East Asian countries-as an agent of microregional integration.
