Cleopatra is the subject of plays, stories, and movies. This biography attempts to give you a more realistic picture of the last great Queen of the Egyptians. Part of the difficulty of tracing Cleopatra's life story stems from her sex, which many would expect, but also the fact that her country, while rich, was decadent and destined to fall into the hands of the first strong man who happened on the scene and had the presence of mind to take control. The Ptolemaic Dynasty, of which Cleopatra was the last, originated from Ptolemy, Alexander's great general and successor. These rulers prided themselves on their pure Macedonian blood, therefore they exhibited the same physical weaknesses of any families that are too closely related. Download
