Lyrics & Music La Chicana - Tango Agazapado

More «La Chicana - Tango Agazapado» La Chicana's third album Tango Agazapado was an overwhelming success from the word 'Go'. After its much publicized presentation, on August 29, 2003, and its subsequent release on the European market, the road went up, up, up for these fresh, young players on the tango field - a more than pleasant development, which culminated in Tango Agazapado winning the very prestigeous Carlos Gardel Award for the year 2004 (that's the little golden man on the left of this text). La Chicana was formed in the first months of 1996 with the clear intention of producing tango music with a rougher edge. They favour the canyengue rhythms and humorous melodrama of early tango as opposed to more solemn later flavours. They believe that the essence of tango lies in its 1920's spirit of rebellion and spontaneity which puts it ideologically closer to rock music than to the orchestral forms that, since about the 1940's popularised it all over the world. This is not to say that La Chicana's young musicians lack subtlety or precision; they indeed are solid professionals who just happen to have acquired a special taste for improvisation and noise. All they need is the chance to prove that tango should thrive as popular music in the streets while at the same time it continues to dazzle from the orchestral stand. La Chicana have performed in many a tango bar, night club and milonga of Buenos Aires, never failing to combine communication with soul, danceability with pathos. Their first independent release spans from guardia vieja instrumentals to forgotten gems of the 1930's and some of their own materials. Since then, they have taken advantage of numerous tours to the most dissimilar corners of the world (Spain, Germany, Brazil, Canada, England and even Senegal), thus enriching their music with elements of different cultures akin to the spirit of tango. In their second release, Un Giro Extraño (A Strange Turn) they managed to thoroughly deepen the concepts already present in their first album: Tango with camaristically refined arrangements, more of their own songs, rhythmic investigation into African and Brazilian milonga and insightful visits to non-tanguero argentine folklore. Tango Agazapado, the album now within your grasp, takes the entire mix to a level of virtuosity, for which the Carlos Gardel Award was rightfully bestowed upon them. Do give it a spin - you won't be disappointed. La Chicana are: Dolores Solá vocals Acho Estol guitar, backing vocals, arrangements Diego Malaguarnera violin Martín Cecconi bandoneón Federico Tellechea percussion Manuel Onís bass (During the 2005 European Tour Osiris Rodríguez sat in for Diego Malaguarnera). To see, read and hear more of La Chicana, do by all means spend a visit to their own website at . I bet you'll like it. It looks really cool!
