This third edition of the classic study of the roots of feminist theory is updated to include developments in the 1990s, including cofeminism, the intertwining of the women's rights and animal rights movements, postmodern figures such as Camille Paglia, and all the latest trends.

This first major study of feminist theory, which has been revised and completely reset, now takes the reader into the twenty-first century. It chronicles a renaissance of feminist theory through the so-called third wave of the present day, which follows significant "waves" of earlier periods: the fifteenth through early eighteenth centuries as well as the more widely recognized nineteenth century; and the 1960s through the 1980s.
