Und entsprechend motiviert legt er, unterstützt von seiner Band Disko No. 1 um den Bassisten Ali Busse und seinem langjährigen Produzenten Matthias Arfmann, mit dem bereits als Single veröffentlichten Titel Klar auch los.Jan Delay hat nichts von seiner Bissigkeit und Experimentierfreudigkeit verloren, was er mit Songs wie "Kartoffeln" und "Gasthaus zum lachenden Stalin" eindrucksvoll unterstreicht. Statt lange um den heißen Brei herumzureden benennt er die anhaltenden Probleme deutschen Kulturschaffens sehr genau, garniert mit einer extrascharfen Prise Humor und durchaus angebrachtem Zynismus. Mercedes Dance ist ein mehr als würdiger Nachfolger von Searching For The Jan Soul Rebels, wenngleich musikalisch nur bedingt vergleichbar. Statt auf altbewährtes zu setzen, hat Jan Delay auch diesmal wieder den schwierigen und mitunter auch mühsamen Weg gewählt, nach neuen Inspirationsquellen zu suchen. Dass er schließlich beim Funk hängen geblieben ist, ist ein Glücksfall. Mit seinen unnachahmlich nasalen Gesangparts prägt Jan Delay in Stücken wie "Kirchturmkandidaten" oder "Ahn ich gar nicht" nach vor das Geschehen nach belieben. Und auch sein Zusammentreffen mit Udo Lindenberg bei "Im Arsch" ist alles andere als eine Enttäuschung. Hier ziehen zwei der eigenwilligsten deutschsprachigen Künstler endlich gemeinsam an einem Strang. Ein herrlich schlechtgelaunter Abgesang auf die Welt und alle Berufsoptimisten, der ein großes Album mehr als würdig abschließt.
