My personal reflection: I've grown up listening to JB since the days of "Doctor My Eyes" and have always wanted a "Best Of" collection but never really found just what I was hoping for. Let me be the first to say..... this has to be the one, and to top it all off, it has been wonderfully remastered bringing richness to the music I didn't know existed! This is a keeper if you ever wanted a best-of from Jackson Browne!!

Over the past three decades, Jackson Browne has created and voiced many of the most literate and emotionally resonant compositions in popular music—and sold more than 15 million albums, including the seven-times platinum Running On Empty and the 1 Hold Out. This year Browne’s artistry is celebrated with his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and with this new retrospective from Rhino. Browne’s first-ever double-disc set compiles hits, singles, and choice album cuts from his acclaimed catalog, spotlighting both insightful works of personal introspection and passionately delivered songs of social and political observation. The 2002 recipient of the prestigious John Steinbeck Award (honoring those exemplifying the famed writer’s environmental and social ideals), Browne is a mature artist and world citizen whose work shines on this long-awaited collection.

The career-spanning double-disc Very Best of Jackson Browne is both generous and astute. Throughout the '70s, Browne epitomized the confessional singer-songwriter genre: His songs were often introspective, personal, and poetic, tinged with melancholy and longing-but they could also rock, albeit in that laid-back, California way. Beginning

with the soulful "Doctor My Eyes," the first disc covers the classics from the '70s, including the twangy "Take It Easy," which Browne wrote with Glenn Frey, whose Eagles had a hit with it; the wistful "These Days," covered first by Nico and more recently by Paul Westerberg; the touching "Fountain of Sorrow"; and the desperate "The Pretender." Browne reached his commercial pinnacle with 1977's Running on Empty, and "The Load-Out," "Stay," and the title track were Top 40 hits.
