This chapter provides an introduction to the Newtonian particle dynamics of n bodies with gravitational fields. Ater establishing the equations of motion and their well-known integrals we specialize the problem to that of two bodies. This can be solved analytically and, since it so frequently approximates the real state of affairs in orbital mechanics, it is the conceptual basis for most mathematical formulations of interest. We examine several approaches to this problem and derive the relations between constants of the motion and the initial position and velocity of one body with respect to the other.
