More Institutional Frameworks and Labor Market Performance provides an in-depth analysis of the functioning of various labor market institutions in both the US and Germany. Particular emphasis is given to the substantial differences between the ways the US and Germany regulate important areas. The authors demonstrate the ways in which the impact of institutions on economic performance is ambivalent. Furthermore, they argue that the decision is not between regulation and deregulation, but rather between different degrees and forms of regulation. All the factors which influence the functioning of labor markets are discussed, including detailed examinations of the German apprenticeship system, training and hiring behavior and international difference in working time.
