Hunting Percival P.66, Pembroke C.Mk.54 (F-40 Flugzeuge Der Bundeswehr 19) By Hanfried Schliephake

Percival wählte für sein neues Flugzeug anstelle der Tiefdecker- die Schulterdecker-konfiguration, die er schon mit der Mergan-ser erprobt hatte, wodurch er ein wirksameres Gewichts-Auftriebsverhältnis erzielte, was sich wiederum günstig auf die Startstrecke auswirkte. Darüber hinaus gab es aber noch andere Vorteile, wie z.B. ein ungehinderter Zugang durch eine große Kabinentür, nahe dem Boden, wodurch auch die Frachtversion bequem be- und entladen werden konnte. Der geräumige Rumpf von einem fast viereckigen Querschnitt war mit acht Passagiersitzen bestuhlt. Die Besatzung bestand aus zwei Mann. Im hinteren Rumpfabschnitt befanden sich eine Toilette und ein 180 kg fassender Gepäckraum.

Die Popularität dieses Flugzeugs schlug sich bald in den Auftragsbüchern von Hun-ting Percival nieder. Die P. 50 Prince machte am 13.Mai 1948 ihren Erstflug. Das erste Serienflugzeug wurde am 18. Januar 1949 ausgeliefert. Die P. 50 wurde in den Serien 1, 2 und 3 als Reise- und Verbindungs-sowie in Sonderausführung als V.I.P.-Flug-zeug genutzt.
