More How to Analyze Reliability Data (The ASQC basic references in quality control. Statistical techniques) By Wayne Nelson This volume presents modern methods for extracting information from life tests and field data. These methods can be successfully used on a great variety of products by many who have just a working knowledge of basic statistics. Includes: life distributions and concepts; graphical analysis of life data; numerical analysis of life data; other topics such as comparisons with hypothesis tests, system reliability, maintainability, availability, and Bayesian methods. The American Society for Quality (ASQ), formerly known as the American Society for Quality Control (ASQC) published a series of "how to" books to teach many basic and some advanced methods in statistics, reliability and quality control for engineers and other practitioners. These books are all concise and to the point and serve as excellent reference manuals on the topics. My initial thought when seeing small monographs with the "how to" title would be watered down and oversimplified presentations. Such is not the case as the ASQ enlisted some of the leading experts and best writers to author these books. The concentration is on applications and methods rather than theory but a fundamental understanding as to why the technique works and how it works is imparted to the readers. Wayne Nelson is a very famous statistician and statistical consulting. He worked for many years at General Electric and then formed his consulting business. He has received many awards for the quality and clarity of his work. Wayne believes that a lot of inportant information can be gleened from graphics and he emphasizes some of these techniques in the book. Enjoy it.
