More Leonard Wooley, "History of Mankind: Cultural and Scientific Development: Prehistory and the Beginnings of Civilization, Part 2" Summary: Great Rating: 5 This enormous volume was the first in a five-part series covering the entire history of mankind from our earliest origins to the 20th century. Jacquetta Hawks and Sir Lenard Wooley kick off this tremendous series with a volume on the prehistory and ancient history of man, up to about 1200 BC, which they say is the traditional dividing line between "ancient" and more "modern" history. Since this volume was published in the early 60's, no doubt it would need to be amended with more modern readings, but for it's time it was the most complete review of the literature to be had, and I learned a lot from it. Truly a great scholarly work and a landmark book on ancient history. Not all books ... appear on the homepage.
