More In the 19th century, a monk named Gregor Mendel studied how different types of pea plants passed their characteristics to the next generation. His studies in heredity led to science's current understanding of genetic inheritance and how traits are passed down from parents to children. In "Heredity", travel through the history of genetics from the early ideas of heredity to Watson and Crick's discovery of the structure of DNA to the future of genetic research. Through these discoveries, scientists can now decipher the 'code of life', see how cells divide, and study how certain traits are passed from parent to child. Experiments with heredity have also created promising results for tests for genetic disorders, the Human Genome Project, cloning, and future cures for many common diseases like heart disease and cancer.
