HEALING SIXES formed in Indianapolis in the winter of 1998, setting out on a mission to make music that would be true to the musicians themselves, music they would still want to hear in twenty years. Their new album Enormosound is a collection of unabashedly timeless songs that separate the men from the boy bands. Raised on rock, but with influences ranging from Johnny Cash to Otis Redding to Jeff Buckley, HEALING SIXES use these artists as colors to paint a picture on a sonic rock canvas.

Comprised of Doug Henthorn (vocals, guitar), Eric Saylors (guitar, backing vocals), Chaz Winzenread (bass), and a touring drummer, HEALING SIXES opened for several Jason Bonham Band shows in 1999. Jason, the son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, was so impressed by the Sixes’ set that after the tour was over, he disbanded his own group to join HEALING SIXES as their drummer. “Doug’s voice is fantastic,” says Jason. “They’re hungry to play and that’s how it’s supposed to be.”

When drummer Jason Bonham is involved you know the music will be 70's orientated and it's exactly what Healing Sixes plays. Last year Jason appeared as an actor (playing drums) in the movie "Rock star" but before that we have to go back to 97 where he did something on his own, "When you see the sun" by Jason Bonham band was released and under one tour in 99, he met Eric Saylors - Guitar and Doug Henthorn - Vocals, Guitar who were a support act for a couple of shows.

They jammed together doing the Hendrix tune "Foxy lady" and kept in touch after that. Interest of doing something together was there all along and after a year they called each other up on the phone for a bar night to discuss a possible band union. Label Corazong showed interest and then they catched up with producer Kevin Shirley (Journey) to make their debut.

Singer Doug Henthorn has a real bluesy voice sounding a bit like Robin Trower and the music goes in the same vein as Led Zeppelin, Mountain and Bonham (his two first albums in 89 and 92).

Healing Sixes do stand out in this nu-metal climate with their good old fashioned hard rock. The last song on the album though which is a country song feels rather misplaced here. The cover artwork by Storm Thorgerson (pink floyd, led zeppelin) is magnificent and makes the album worth to buy only for that reason. But with the reunion of Led Zeppelin next year, I wonder if this band will go in the grave because Jason will leave Healing Sixes as soon as Jimmy Page and Robert Plant calls. If you love The Zepps, this record is a perfect substitute in the waiting for a new Zep album.
