One company to feel the stinging effects of these cutbacks is Grumman Aerospace which saw its superb F-14D Super Tomcat dropped and the final A-6 Intruder delivered to the Navy. Grumman has built some of the finest naval warplanes of all times and this volume takes a look at the Grumman series of 'Cats - the Widlcat, Hellcat, Tigercat and Bearcat. For good measure a few Avengers and other Grumman warplanes have also been added. What is depressing is the fact that so few of the many combat aircraft designed and built by Grumman exist today. The few that do survive and still fly are the products of a small group of individuals who, for various reasons, wanted to keep a famous segment of aviation history alive and flying.
