Ganga - Gaia (2010)

More Genre: Downtempo, Lounge, Chillout, Tribal | Label: Flinc Music | 8 tracks With the same Hindi name as the largest river of the Indian subcontinent, Danish downbeat Chillout producer Ganga aptly creates layered, free-flowing music that constantly changes and evolves. Step on board the Sampan as we prepare for the release of Ganga’s 4th studio album ‘Gaia’ next month by One World Music. Ganga aka Christian Ronn started playing the guitar and piano at an early age. Moving on to also write, it was a natural progression for him to go on to study literature at University. Garnering a name for himself in the literary world, a collection of his poems were published before he turned his sights back onto his first love, music. After a further 6 years of study, he graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Music where he excelled in improvisation. With a passion for ethnic music, his incessant thirst for knowledge attracted him to study instruments such as the Sitar and the Tingklik. Naturally, this lead to him composing and producing his own tracks, which were quickly snapped up for use in films and television. Describing himself as a musical chameleon, the classically trained musician and producer Ganga entered the electronic world of music with his first album 'I Dream About Trees' in 2005. The album, inspired amongst other things by his love for trees, created a stir in downbeat/chillout/lounge circles, then following up with his second album ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ in 2007, then ‘More Light Please’ in 2009. In the past five years, Ganga’s compositions have appeared on more than 40 compilations released globally including Buddha Bar, Real Ibiza, Café Mambo, Serve Chilled and No Stress. He has also been invited to perform on some of Europe’s biggest stages including four times on the main stage at Roskilde Festival in Denmark. Ganga recorded ‘Gaia’ in during his while in Copenhagen, Ibiza and New York. Drawing inspiration from his surroundings as he went, he managed to merge all his creative talents by blending his own brand of electronic sounds with Balearic guitars, Asian infused strings and sensual vocals. Opting for the vocals to accompany his harmony driven arrangements rather than sit out front, the aptly titled opening track ‘Wake Up’ gently invites us to come forth on a musical journey of sound. The first single from the album ‘Lights’, featuring Ganga delivering his husky vocals over paced electronic beats and less ‘worldy’ elements than other parts of the album. The second single ‘This Time’, features the soulful vocal and lyrical talents of Scheherazade Stone – who has opened up for the likes of Beck and legendary rock band Grateful Dead. Lifting the tempo half way through is ‘Phoenix’ featuring the silky smooth vocals of Helle Chirholm and Violinist Niels Skovmand adding his highly lauded strings into the mix. "Ganga has been making incredible music for years and their finest moments to date have really been truly outstanding and gave me many great memories of Ibiza from my years at Mambo, tracks that I'll be playing out for years to come, pure quality."
