More Der Band vereinigt die Kleinen (namenkundlichen) Schriften des Indogermanisten Günter Neumann (1920 - 2005) zum Germanischen, bes. Altgermanischen. Das Hauptinteresse des Autors lag auf der semantischen und etymologischen Deutung sowie der Herausarbeitung der Benennungsmotive von Orts- und Personennamen. Dabei wird der Bezug zur Geschichtswissenschaft besonders deutlich.In seinen Beiträgen berücksichtigt Günter Neumann die Beleglage vollständig. Kompetent bezieht er dabei, über die Sprachwissenschaft hinausgehend, den sachlichen Hintergrund mit ein und schafft es so, mögliche Benennungsmotive herauszustellen. Seine Arbeiten zeichnen sich damit durch etymologische Kreativität einerseits, aber andererseits auch durch eine ausgesprochen nüchterne Einschätzung und Abwägung der etymologischen Möglichkeiten, die mit den sachlichen Informationen über die zu deutenden Begriffe vereinbar sind, aus.
