More Freedom: Reassessments and Rephrasings By Jose V. Ciprut Some philosophers conceive freedom as a state; others view it as an ideal. A songwriter sees it as a way of life: "Like a bird on a wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir, I have tried in my way to be free." The embattled statesman and the political idealist perceive causal links among personal freedoms, societal democracy, and global peace. In this cross-disciplinary volume, interlinked contributions reassess and rephrase the conceptualizations and theorizations of freedom and their applicability to daily life. Framed by historical contexts, the field-specific studies offered help reconcile theory and practice. The unique ideational framework reflected in this book can be paraphrased in six words, a question mark, and a (muted) exclamation point: Freedom? Beware what you wish for (!). Freedom can only be when there is awareness - intelligence - understanding, without this there is just bondage to whatever. Some folks think that sexual promiscuity is freedom, but this is not so. It's not that there's anything wrong with sex, but when there is a need - it is the need that dictates; that is bondage. Likewise, politicians think that laws & rules make for freedom, how wrong. By making people conform all you achieve is enslavement, dis-empowerment, dis-ease & chaos. Be free & you have no trouble. May seem a very simplistic sentence, but freedom is way beyond any concept - you really have to be it. Freedom is not an idea to be embraced, but an actual acknowledgement of what life is at its very essence.
