More MA-Thesis / Master, die am 20.06.2006 erfolgreich an einer Universität in Deutschland im Fachbereich Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Fakultät eingereicht wurde. Einleitung: Die Integration der europäischen Finanzmärkte ist von entscheidender Bedeutung für die Belebung des Wachstums in der EU und somit ein wichtiger Parameter, um die mittlerweile revidierten Ziele der Lissabon-Strategie zu erreichen. Mit einigen politischen Maßnahmen (bspw. Financial Services Action Plan) ist die Europäische Union dem Ziel eines europäischen Finanzbinnenmarktes einen entscheidenden Schritt näher gekommen. So ist nach der Vollendung des Binnenmarktes und der Euro-Einführung der Integrationsprozess der europäischen Wholesale- und Geldmärkte weit fortgeschritten. Auf einigen Teilmärkten sind jedoch Hürden verblieben, die grenzüberschreitende Finanztransaktionen weiterhin behindern. Besonders im Bereich Retail-Banking ist noch eine starke Zersplitterung der europäischen Märkte zu konstatieren. Dort stellen nationale Grenzen de facto noch immer eine Barriere für Konsumenten dar, so dass grenzüberschreitende Geschäfte zwischen Finanzdienstleistern und privaten Endverbrauchern derzeit noch die Ausnahme sind. Der Retail Bereich ist somit momentan "überwiegend lokal geprägt". Aufgrund dessen können die Potenziale eines EU-Marktes mit 450 Mio. Bürgern zur Zeit nur unzureichend genutzt werden. Natürlich wird die Integration der Finanzdienstleistungsmärkte in entscheidendem Maße vom Verhalten der Teilnehmer bestimmt. Es ist allerdings nicht nur - wie dies zum Teil behauptet wird - allein eine "freie" Entscheidung der Verbraucher, die zur Fragmentierung des europäischen Retail-Banking Marktes beiträgt. Vielmehr ist dieser Befund auch darauf zurückzuführen, dass der Marktzutritt von ausländischen Kreditinstituten oder ausländischen Finanzprodukten erschwert bzw. verhindert wird.
