Famous Men of the Middle Ages (Greenleaf Press) by John H Haaren, A B Poland, Robert G Shearer

This is an updated edition of the original work, with NEW chapters on Benedict and Gregory, Pope Gregory VII and Emperor Henry IV, and Francis and Dominic.

The stories begin with the tales of the Germanic chiefs who defeated the Romans: Alaric, Genseric, and Theodoric. Then come stories of the famous kings of the Franks: Clovis, Charles Martel, and Charlemagne. The second half of the book includes chapters on Justinian, Mohammed, Harun-Al-Rashid, El Cid, William the Conqueror, Frederick Barbarossa, Tamerlane, Marco Polo, and Joan of Arc. The stories of many of these figures can t be found for children anywhere else. Don t just show children pictures of castles; let them read the stories of those who built them and lived in them.

About the Author

Rob Shearer has a B.A. in History from Davidson College and an M.A. in History and Humanities from Stanford College. He taught Humanities and History courses while working on his doctorate at Stanford and History and Philosophy at Virginia Wesleyan College from 1981-1984. In 1979-1980 he was a Fulbright Research Fellow in Marburg, Germany.

Cyndy Shearer has a B.A. in English from Queens College (Charlotte, NC) and an M.A. in English from the University of Virginia. She has taught elementary, high school and college students and has been a homeschooling mom since 1985.
