Matthias Goeken setzt sich mit der Entwicklung von Data-Warehouse-Systemen, vor allem mit den frühen Phasen des Entwicklungsprozesses, auseinander. Er analysiert Phasenmodelle der Anwendungsentwicklung, Techniken und Aufgaben des Anforderungsmanagements sowie die Modellierung multidimensionaler Datenstrukturen. Auf dieser Grundlage entwirft er eine eigene Methode zur Entwicklung von Data-Warehouse-Systemen, die ein detailliertes Phasenmodell mit Aktivitäten, Techniken und Entwicklungsergebnissen umfasst, um den Anforderungen verschiedener Benutzergruppen gerecht zu werden.
