More Douglas C-124 Globemaster II (Air force legends 206) By Earl Berlin Earl Berlin joined the Air Force in 1974 and attended tech school at Chanute AFB, IL. His first assignment was as a KC-135 crew chief at Altus AFB, OK. His next assignment was that of a F-105G crew chief at George AFB, CA. He became a tech school instructor at Sheppard AFB, TX, before being assigned to F-4E/G Phantoms at Spangdahlem AB, Germany. Earl finished off his career as the NCO/IC of the Maintenance Operation left at Luke AFB, AZ. Earl retired in 1995 as a Master Sergeant. When I asked Earl why he had spent ten years researching a aircraft that he had no experience with, he said, "because nobody had paid any attention to the contributions the C-124 made to the United States. Anyone having photos or other information on this, or any other naval or marine aircraft, may submit them for possible inclusion in future issues. Any material submitted will become the property of NAVAL FIGHTERS unless prior arrangement is made. Individuals are responsible for security clearance of any material before submission.
