Die Digitale Bibliothek stellt das im deutschsprachigen Raum bisher gröte Projekt dar, umfangreiche Grundlagentexte geisteswissenschaftlicher Disziplinen elektronisch zu erfassen. Die Digitale Bibliothek ist eine Reihe von in sich abgeschlossenen elektronischen Editionen, die als CD-ROM erscheinen. Die Reihe setzt sich aus umfangreichen Textanthologien, Handbüchern und Bildsammlungen zu Themen und Teilgebieten der Literatur, der Kunst, der Geistes- und der Sozialwissenschaften zusammen.

Die Digitale Bibliothek versteht sich nicht als Konkurrenz zum gedruckten Buch. Im Gegenteil, sie will vielmehr die spezifischen, bislang kaum ausgeschöpften Möglichkeiten der elektronischen Erfassung und Verarbeitung von Texten und Abbildungen nutzen, um die Welt der Bücher neu zu erschlieen. The digital library is in the German-speaking world& 039;s largest project to date, extensive basic texts humanities disciplines to electronically record. The digital library is a series of self-electronic editions, as a CD-ROM. They are coordinated conceptually and functionally linked. The series consists of extensive text anthologies, manuals and picture collections on subjects and fields of literature, arts, humanities and social sciences.

The digital library is not as a competition for the printed book. On the contrary, it wants more specific, yet hardly utilized possibilities of the electronic collection and processing of texts and illustrations, to the world of books to tap. Their most significant advantage is the quick and accurate retrieval of text. Who depending on the terms, quotations and motifs has sought knows how useful a sophisticated full-text search. The editions of the Digital Library to be the study of texts and hence easier to carry, but also anyone who is interested in fun and, to expeditions to the world of Gedachten written and stimulate.
