After winning a Best Jazz Vocal Performance Grammy for 1999's platinum-selling When I Look In Your Eyes, Diana Krall delivers her best album yet -- a lush, cinematic collection of ballads and bossa nova tunes. The Look Of Love brings to mind such classic Frank Sinatra albums as In The Wee Small Hours and Only The Lonely. But the elegant piano solos, the sensual vocals and the wickedly-modern sense of humor are, inimitably, all Krall. This is without doubt one of the finest examples of multi-channel music available and is arguably among the best that DVD-Audio has to offer. Diana's vocals are extremely rich and detailed with every nuance in her voice coming through with amazing clarity. In reference to the 5.1 track, the vocals are predominantly mixed in the left and left channels with a little fill in the centre channel. The surround presence in the MLP 5.1 track is truly exemplary - this is truly the very definition of surround sound. From the first track to the last there isn't a moment of silence in any of the channels. In fact, you are literally placed in the centre of the band. There is also an incredible amount of atmosphere present in the mix which when you close your eyes seemingly increases the size of your room five-fold. Like the surround channels the subwoofer use is nothing short of spectacular. It consistently provides unparalleled deep resonating bass that exceeds even the best DTS track in terms of accuracy and quality. The kick drum in I Remember You, Dancing In The Dark and The Look Of Love is truly something to behold. This is where every dollar you've spent on a subwoofer is returned with interest. The MLP 2.0 track, while nowhere near as expansive as the 5.1 track, still retains a lot of atmosphere. The bottom end is also a little weaker than the 5.1 track but this comes as no surprise due to the lack of the LFE channel. It is still very impressive with the richness of the sound clearly surpassing that of CD. The Look Of Love is a sensational DVD-Audio from one of the jazz world's greatest talents.

This is a DVD-Audio, remastered, with Advanced Resolution DVD-A Surround Sound, DVD-A Stereo, Dolby Digital Surround Sound. Advanced resolution requires DVD-Audio players, remainder plays on all DVD players.
